Be aware of referer spams like Domar.ru

Recently, or in fact this has been quite awhile already there has been alot of referral spams from site such as domar.ru.

You may ask, what is referral spam. Taking from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Referrer_spam

Referrer spam (also known as log spam or referrer bombing[1]) is a kind of spamdexing (spamming aimed at search engines). The technique involves making repeated web site requests using a fake referrer url that points to the site the spammer wishes to advertise.[2] Sites that publicize their access logs, including referrer statistics, will then end up linking to the spammer's site, which will in turn be indexed by the search engines as they crawl the access logs.
This benefits the spammer because of the free link, and also gives the spammer's site improved search engine ranking due to link-counting algorithms that search engines use.

Basically such spam drives up fake traffic to your blog and gets you to click on it. There are usually operated by a spambot.

There are of course a few ways to end such spam but might not be 100% effective nor immediate.

3 ways that you will probably see and end to the abuse on your blog/site stats or patience.

1. Spammer cease spamming, somehow or rather.
2. Google comes up and block the spam
3. Stop clicking the links.

1. Referer spam, might seem annoying and meaningless to us, is an excellent source of revenue for the spammers. They are easy to produce as it only need access to other people computers or serve to send the spam and owner of sites/blogs to pay for the underserved traffic. Minium expossure but constant income. Which spammer would be of mind to stop doing this?

2. Google is blocking referer spam - but it's a never-ending game. If you look at all the referral links up your stats you can definitely find more than 1 spammer and more than 1 spamming technique. Even if Google detects and blocks them, a new one will definitely come out in awhile or later. As long as referer spam continues to be viable to spammers, they will continue such spam.

3. Probably they real way they can be stop, Dont click on the links, If they can't get an income off you they'll eventually stop.

If you must check out your inlinks from stats remember always to use a proxy server. Alternatively check them out using a 3rd party visitor information logsite like StatsCounter or SiteMeter which are immune to referrer spam.
